We imagined an open and protected block, characterized by flexible edge and deliberately unfinished shapes, capable of exploring the unknown and respond to unpredictable needs.
We wanted to recreate a strong urbanity in one of the areas of Milan’s most sensitive transformation, addressing the issue of living starting from the place. We wanted to create a place of living with a double soul, public and private, urban and domestic, which generates the sense of community through the design of spaces where to share them values related to the deeper meaning of living, the sense of having care.
We privileged the voids, designing open and permeable spaces, experienced and perceived by everyone as their own, from which to reveal views surprising on the Cascina Merlata Park, a lookout through which activate a system of visual relationships, making the view become suture between city and park.
The block is made up of the Agora and the large residential courtyard.
North of the Agora are the Vertical Tower and the Horizontal Tower, while to the south there is the Gymnasium, with the main entrance and the functions most representative municipalities (reception, gym, common room).
Around the large courtyard are the Palazzo Urbano (towards the Boulevard), the Urban Villas (towards the equipped park) and the Villas on the Park (towards the park). The Court is raised above the garage creating a ground floor that houses the Retail towards the Boulevard and increasing the introspection of the apartments.
The corners of the block are open to generate open visual cones on the park from all residential units, ensuring even the best solar radiation from the Court. In line with the changes in contemporary ways of living, we have developed an “evolutionary” design of housing, flexible, non-flexible overdetermined, which accommodate multiple and different aggregations possible internal alterations.
