Given the significance of the building within such a complex and layered site, the project doesn’t propose an apodictic and univocal solution, but focuses instead on a double strategy.
The first option, consistent with the competition theme, proposes an aereal connection to be located on the top floor of the towers.
To minimize the intrusiveness of this addition, the design concept started from an abstract vision of the geometry of the arches punctuating the towers, a transparent extrusion thus generates the desired connection between the two Arengari. A virtual extension of the existing forms becomes a transparent and refined display case, being generated by the building instead of being imposed.
The second, more cautious option proposes an external passage, realized by the transformation of the narrow area between the two monumental elevations into a “piazza” and the insertion of a luminous carpet that interprets in a contemporary key the theme of perspective within the historical axe of the Galleria.
